Wooden garden beds have many benefits, they are made of natural materials, they are environmentally friendly, they don’t leach chemicals or require extensive mining or depend on crude oil. Wooden garden beds are the organic gardener’s choice of garden beds.
There are two excellent choices of garden bed, either Cypress garden beds or Red gum garden beds, although ACQ is becoming more accepted as a "safer" alternative to treated pine, the jury is still out on just how good it is. Unlike CCA treated pine there is no arsenic or chromium in ACQ. So if you must use treated pine make sure it’s NOT CCA.
Cypress is a class 1 durability timber which means it’s the highest durability rating available. Cypress is naturally termite and rot resistant, this is because of the naturally high oil content of the timber. The general consensus is that Cypress is the best wood to make your wooden garden beds from. All the cypress we use is sustainably grown here in Australia.
Red gum is the next best choice for a wooden garden bed, Red gum is also a class 1 timber, it’s a very heavy and hard wood that will last many years. The unique colour of red gum is very impressive and can be maintained when oiled.
Its good practice to oil your wooden garden beds, some people like to use decking oil. I prefer the natural alternative of raw linseed oil. it can be picked up at most good hardware stores and will last many years.

Wicking beds
We now stock wicking bed boxes, these are a great alternative to high drainage sand. Garden beds require less fill and can hold more water, lasting longer between the hot weeks in the peak of summer.
